sketches on the plane!

by finnjohnny
Posted In: finn blogs

ok, i feel bad for missing out on the last three sketch nights but i’m gonna make up for it… while flying on an airplane!  so, i proudly present you with my version of sketch night, using poses struck during my San Diego Comic Con 2010!

and like usual, we start off with 30 sec sketches, featuring Iron Man on the top left and Green Arrow on the bottom left.

the one minute sketches were definitely fun, still using my black Copic sketch marker.  we got Bart in a superhero costume, a zombie (!!!), and some DC power ring girls.

for the first 5 minute sketch, i took a stab at a Star Wars blue jedi, which after a quick google search, has a name!  learn all about Aayla Secura at her Wookieepedia page!

for a couple more 5 minute sketches, still on the Copic, i took a stab at the amazing Christopher Reeves as Superman.

ten minute sketch of haiii-yah, Bruce Lee!

a 15 minute sketch of another female alien in blue, Neytiri, from Avatar.

for this next one, a 20 minute sketch, i take no credit since it’s just a “fan art” copy of the original by Sean Chen of the BLVDstudio.com, who i also met at SDCC.  great stuff, his that is.

and for the final 15 minute sketch, i present to you the physical model of my own character, Ace!

think, just think of it

by finnjohnny

how about a poem, why not?

think, just think of it
memories pass thru and thru
where it leads to I don’t really care
I know that this isn’t real
that this feeling is what you want from me
I’ll go thru this if that’s what it takes
just wish you would do the same for me
do you think of me too?
do you realize what you’ve done to me?
no, I don’t think you know much of anything right now
maybe tomorrow you’ll feel more
it won’t do either of us any good
I’ve gone through this before
you never had to feel this
together the sun shines hot
I’m looking forward to touching the surface
there isn’t room for fear now
now, there is only time

boxing with the iPad

by finnjohnny
Posted In: finn blogs

still learning and experimenting with the iPad for doing some quicker artwork. getting used to doing a very rough sketch first and then creating a new layer to do the fine art work. here’s the result of a boxer I found in a magazine ad. why a boxer? because they’re hardcore.

Andrew Garfield as the new Spiderman

by finnjohnny
Posted In: finn blogs

they just released the first image of Andrew Garfield as the new spiderman and I must admit, I’m much more excited about the movie now. I remember the first spiderman movie with Tobey Maguire and I thought he did look geeky enough for the role. but now looking at Garfield, he has that slimmer build yet pulls off that “I’m not popular” feel. that plus Emma Stone, and this movie is now very exciting.

the below art which pretty much mimics the first released photo is done entirely on the iPad, using the app Sketch Book Pro and both a Stylus Sock II and the Boxwave pen. this time I finally ran up against the 7 layer max of the app. overall ough, pretty happy with the result!

new webcomic!

by finnjohnny
Posted In: finn blogs

just wanted everybody to know there’s a brand new webcomic which starts today with their first post!  i’ll be contributing to it along with a few other collegues.  the focus of the webcomic is what super heroes do in their regular lives.  hence the tagline, “Not-so-average Heroes on their oh-so-average days.”
